Home Remedies for Quick Yeast Infection Cures

Yeast infections are caused by an overgrowth of an unhealthy type of bacteria called Candida albicans. Symptoms of a yeast infection include itchiness, redness and burning sensation in the affected area. There are several remedies which can help combat a yeast infection at home. Keep in mind that these are folk remedies and should not replace the advice of a medical professional. These remedies are only to be used when you are absolutely certain of the infection type you have. Even so, consult your doctor before using any of these methods.
  1. Probiotics

    • Yogurt contains a type of bacteria called Lactobacillus acidophilus, which is naturally found in a healthy digestive tract and vagina. Eating yogurt containing these probiotics is a good preventative method to keep growth of yeast bacteria under control. If you are already suffering from a yeast infection, however, inserting yogurt or curds into the vagina once or twice per day can help get rid of the fungus that caused the infection. Just to be safe, continue treating the area with yogurt for at least a day after your symptoms have disappeared.

    Cranberries

    • Cranberries have the effect of lowering the pH of body fluids such as urine, which makes them great for flushing bacteria from the body. Because this treatment is pretty mild, it is better to use when you are just coming down with a yeast infection rather than when you already have a full-blown infection. You can take in cranberries by adding them to your daily food, drinking unsweetened cranberry juice (sweetened contains a lot of sugar), or by taking cranberry supplements, which are available for purchase in most heath food stores.

    Boric Acid

    • Boric acid kills yeast bacteria and can be used in the form of a vaginal suppository. This is a very strong treatment and should relieve even a severe yeast infection. To make a boric acid suppository, purchase some empty capsules, available in pharmacies and health food stores, and fill them with up to 600 mg of boric acid. The capsules will melt once inserted and the boric acid can escape and do its job. Use one of these suppositories every night and for another night or two after symptoms are gone.

    Apple Cider Vinegar

    • Apple cider vinegar is a quick cure for many different physical ailments, especially those involving bacteria and pH problems. Apple cider vinegar has a pH balancing effect, making it very effective against yeast bacteria. You can simply dab some on the affected area with cottonballs two or three times per day until symptoms disappear. You can also dilute the vinegar with water and/or add a little fresh garlic for an added antiseptic effect. Continue to use this treatment for a few days after your infection has cleared to keep it from coming back.
