Signs That You May Be Going Through Menopause
In menopause, a woman's childbearing years come to an end along with her menstrual cycle. This typically occurs between the ages of 48 and 54. It can be an uncomfortable time because hormonal imbalances cause many physical and emotional changes. Some women are bothered by these changes a great deal, others not at all. The time frame of menopause varies; it can last anywhere from 2 to 10 years.-
Changes in Menstrual Cycle

One of the first signs you may be starting menopause, which is known as perimenopause, is a change in your period. The menstrual flow can become lighter or heavier and the length of your cycle can vary. The average 28-day cycle may become erratic. You might not have your next period for 35, 54 or even 90 days after your last one.
Hot Flashes

Uncomfortable, unmistakable hot flashes are a telltale sign. One minute your body temperature can be comfortable or cool, the next you feel a flush of heat rush over your body. The walls may even feel like they are closing in. These can last anywhere from three minutes to up to an hour at a time. It is best to dress in layers to accommodate the fluctuating body temperatures.
Mood Swings

During menopause, your hormones are imbalanced. This can cause you to cry one minute, be angry the next minute and be happy the next minute. It is really unpredictable and through no fault of your own. Upon completion of menopause, you will feel more like yourself again. Stress-relieving activities can help combat these emotions.
Sleep Disturbances

Menopause can cause difficulty sleeping, mainly because of the disturbances in your body temperature. Hot flashes can cause night sweats, which in turn may cause insomnia. Other things that may disturb your sleep are the effects of the mood swings and fear of aging itself.
Weight Gain/Fluid Retention

Weight gain due to water retention is another early sign of menopause. The hormonal imbalance in your body is disruptive to your body's cells, which will cause you to retain water and gain weight.
