How to Stop Taking Natural Progesterone

Natural progesterone is a hormone supplement that is created in a lab but identical to the progesterone a woman makes in her body. The supplement is most commonly used by women who are trying to become pregnant because progesterone prepares the uterine wall for egg implantation. However, some women use natural progesterone when their own body is not making enough. When women want to stop taking progesterone, they must do so gradually to avoid feeling uncomfortable and, if they are pregnant, to keep the fetus healthy.

Instructions

    • 1

Reduce the daily amount of natural progesterone you take as soon as you are ready to quit taking the supplement. Depending on how much you currently take, reduce your amount by no more than 15 to 30 mg.

    • 2

Take the reduced amount of natural progesterone for three weeks to a month. This will allow your body to adjust to the new levels. If you are pregnant, it will also allow the fetus to adjust properly.

    • 3

Reduce the current amount by another 15 to 30 mg after the three weeks/one month has elapsed.

    • 4

Quit taking the natural progesterone after another three weeks to a month. By this time, your body will not notice the lack of the supplement.
