Remedies for Irregular Periods
Medical science has advanced enough that women now have many choices when it comes to reproduction options and uterine health. Many women who have irregular periods can use the same techniques that assist in good reproductive and uterine health to get their cycles into a more predictable pattern.-
Diet
-
Make sure your diet is in order. This is because the regularity of the menstrual cycle is determined to a large extent by hormone production, which is impacted by the vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are consumed. Lack of proper dietary needs causes the hormones related to menstruation to be too off kilter to have menstruation stay regular. Additionally, when there are not enough vitamins, minerals and nutrients consumed, the body will not spend energy on "extra" physical processes--it continues only what is necessary for the woman's survival and will not put energy into regulating the menstrual cycle. In general, avoid stimulants like caffeine, spicy foods, junk food, etc., and get a diet rich in iron-rich fruits, vegetables and meats.
Birth Control
-
Check your birth control. Hormonal birth control methods such as the pill can be at varying dosage levels, depending on the size, weight, medical history, etc., of the individual woman. It takes a while for a woman's body to adjust to the hormone level in the birth control, so cycles can be irregular when starting hormonal treatments for reproduction control. If cycles are still irregular after a few months, the dosage can be adjusted by your doctor.
Meditation
-
Don't stress--meditate instead. Even when you are eating right and have the right dosage on your hormonal birth control, the menstrual cycle still can be affected negatively by hormonal changes that occur as a result of stress. The more stressed out you are, the more irregular the menstrual cycle will tend to be as your hormone levels fluctuate back and forth due to stressors. Try to regulate your cycle naturally by using meditation techniques like doing yoga, listening to soothing music or getting a massage.
Herbs
-
Drink your tea. Certain herbs have been known to promote uterine health that is necessary for menstrual regularity. For example, Dong Quai tea is taken not only to reduce menstrual cramps, but to help maintain the hormonal balance needed for the menstrual cycle to occur. You can choose a tea that meets your specific needs and tastes good to you, as there are many different herbs available, many of which are also available as plain dietary supplements.
