What to Expect at 28 Weeks Pregnant

At 28 weeks pregnant, the third trimester has officially started. According to the American Pregnancy Association, doctor appointments will likely increase to once every two weeks at 28 weeks of pregnancy.
  1. Increased Fatigue

    • For most pregnant women, the second trimester was accompanied by a burst of energy. In the third trimester, the fatigue returns as the body tries to conserve energy for the childbirth process.

    Pressure and Pain

    • As the uterus continues to increase in size, there may be increased round ligament pain in the abdomen caused by the stretching of the ligaments. Pregnant women may also feel increased pressure and pain in the pelvic area.

    Difficulty Breathing

    • The expanding uterus places growing pressure on the diaphragm and lungs making it more difficult to take full, deep breaths. Rest assured the fetus is still getting the needed oxygen.

    Insomnia

    • Back sleeping has not been allowed since the second trimester. Sleeping becomes increasingly difficult in the third trimester due to the size of the uterus. Use extra pillows for support to aid in sleep.

    Heartburn

    • This symptom tends to get worse as the pregnancy progresses due to the expansion in size. Eating small meals and avoiding triggers such as spicy foods can help to relieve heartburn.
