Foods to Eat to Fight Yeast Infections
Yeast infections, or Candida, can afflict anyone; however, yeast infections are most often reported in women. A yeast infection is simply an overgrowth of yeast in the body. Sometimes the body can overcome the imbalance of yeast on its own and other times medications are required. Sugar and starchy foods should be limited, while other foods that are beneficial in the treatment and prevention of yeast infections should be favored.-
Plain, Unsweetened Yogurt
-
Yogurt contains the good bacteria that fights Candida and helps re-establish healthy levels of bacteria. Yogurt contains live active bacterial cultures and aids in the digestion process.
Garlic
-
Garlic contains allicin, which is an antimicrobial agent that can be eaten or taken in tablet/capsule form. Fresh garlic is recommended; however, a daily supplement is beneficial in the prevention of yeast infections as well as reducing blood pressure and bad cholesterol. Garlic is often referred to as a "natural" antibiotic.
Oil of Oregano
-
Oil of oregano has many medicinal properties. One of them is its significant ability to aid in ridding the body of an overabundance of yeast. A daily supplement of pure oil of oregano is recommended.
Dried Beans and Peas
-
Dried beans and peas are rich in fiber and will prevent dead yeast cells from being re-absorbed by the body by being eliminated through the intestinal system. While beans and peas contain starch, a substance that can feed yeast, their benefits are greater. They should be eaten in moderation and without added sugar.
Carrots
-
Carrots are rich in beta-carotene and Vitamin A, known for strengthening the immune system. Carrots can provide a boost of immunity from yeast infections if eaten regularly.
Aloe Vera Juice
-
Aloe Vera Juice detoxifies the body and removes bacteria, cleaning the intestines and digestive system. Aloe Vera Juice can be mixed with apple juice (unsweetened) to help combat yeast infections. It is recommended to drink at least one ounce each day.
