Cures for Hot Flashes

Hot flashes are one of the most annoying symptoms associated with menopause. According to mothernature.com, more than 50 percent of women experience hot flashes while going through menopause. There is no cure, but doing some simple things can ease the severity of your hot flashes, or if you're lucky, alleviate them completely.
  1. Decrease Coffee Intake

    • Chemical stimulants, such as caffeine, which are found in coffee can trigger a hot flash. By limiting your coffee intake, you can decrease your hot flashes.

    Add Soy

    • Soy foods contain an all-natural estrogen compound that can relieve or prevent hot flashes. By adding soy foods, such as miso, tofu and soybeans to your diet, your hot flashes may become a thing of the past.

    Slow, Deep Breathing

    • Slow, deep breathing, also known as paced respiration, can decrease the severity of hot flashes. By practicing this technique at the beginning of the hot flash, you may be able to make the feeling subside completely.

    Hormone Replacement Therapy

    • Hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, is a well-known solution for hot flashes. Unfortunately, not all women can take HRT, because some women cannot take estrogen.

    Exercise

    • By staying active, you will keep you heart and your body in good shape, especially in your older years. Keeping fit can help you avoid the misery of hot flashes.

    Stay Cool

    • In order to stay cool, wear light fabrics that breathe well. Dress in layers, so you can take things off if you need to. Have a fan and a cool drink ready, in case a hot flash hits.
