Post Menopausal Symptoms

During and after menopause, changes in the levels of hormones in your body can cause uncomfortable and distracting health effects. Menopausal symptoms can last for several years, and can have negative impacts on your mental and physical health, although treatments such as hormone therapy may reduce these symptoms. According to the National Library of Medicine and the Mayo Clinic, women may experience post-menopausal symptoms such as skin changes and sexual dysfunction.
  1. Dry Skin

    • You may notice more itchiness, dryness and flaking of your skin after menopause as a result of low levels of hormones in your body.

    Hair Loss

    • During and after menopause, you may notice thinning of your hair and hair loss on your scalp, arms, legs and eyebrows.

    Mental Changes

    • You may experience more irritability, mental fatigue and distraction while doing household tasks or working at your place of employment.

    Sleep Disorders

    • After menopause, you may begin to experience difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep (insomnia) as well as disruptions in your sleep that leave you feeling unrested.

    Vaginal Dryness

    • Post menopause, your body loses its ability to naturally lubricate the vagina before and during sexual intercourse, which can lead to painful sex.

    Decreased Satisfaction

    • You may experience a decrease in desire or satisfaction with sex after menopause, due to decreases in hormones that make orgasm more difficult to achieve.
