Causes of Frequent Urination in Women
-
Hormones
-
Changes in your hormone levels during pregnancy, after giving birth or during menopause can reduce your bladder's ability to stretch and can result in frequent urination.
Diseases as Causes
-
Chronic kidney disease, diabetes, or tumors on your bladder, uterus or ovaries can constrict your bladder and result in frequent feelings of needing to urinate.
Infections
-
If your frequent urination is painful or accompanied by a foul smell and your urine looks cloudy or has blood in it, you may have a bladder or urinary tract infection (UTI).
Obstructions
-
Stones in your kidneys or bladder, constipation and growth of the uterus during pregnancy can make it difficult to eliminate all of your urine and result in a frequent need to urinate.
Complications
-
If your frequent urination is persistent or results in incontinence, you may develop mental health complications, such as clinical depression, social withdrawal and a loss of self-confidence.
Solutions
-
You may be able to reduce your symptoms of frequent urination by cutting down on alcoholic and caffeinated beverages, avoiding liquids before you go to bed and setting a schedule for using the bathroom.
