Menopause Symptoms and Pain
The period when a woman's ovaries stop producing the hormones that dictate her fertility and menstrual cycle is referred to as menopause. Menopause is experienced by all women. It starts in their late 30s and tapers off by the end of their 50s. The physical event of menopause does not cause pain, but several of the reactionary symptoms may cause discomfort or pain.-
Irregular Menstrual Periods
-
One of the characteristic symptoms of menopause is disrupted menstrual periods. While some women experience lighter periods, other women notice an increase in their menstrual duration and flow which can be accompanied by more intense cramps.
Reduction in Vaginal Lubrication
-
A reduction in vaginal lubrication is another symptom of menopause that can cause discomfort or pain, particularly during and after intercourse.
Heat Intolerance
-
Many women experience severe heat intolerance in addition to unpredictable hot flashes, which can result in significant discomfort and make it difficult to sleep.
Migraines
-
Migraines typically increase in frequency and severity during menopause in women who are genetically predisposed. This can cause severe pain and loss of functionality if it is left untreated.
Emotional Shifts
-
Erratic mood shifts are also a common symptom of menopause. The shifts yield periods of emotional discomfort in the form of unprovoked distress, anxiety, sadness and angst.
