Orexia Side Effects

Many women experience a less-than-satisfactory sex drive and sexual response. In an effort to enjoy sex with their partners and feel driven to initiate it more often, some women turn to libido enhancers for help. Orexia is one such product that's marketed for improving a woman's libido and sexual experience.
  1. Identification

    • The makers of Orexia claim that the product is filled with nothing but naturally derived substances housed in a smooth cream. Among the ingredients are sweet almond, coconut and peppermint oils, as well as beeswax. Also included are shea butter, lecithin, menthol, BHT, benzophenone-3, phenoxyethanol, chlorphensin, benzoic acid, butylene glycol and ascorbic acid. This product is free of parabens, which are substances used in some cosmetics.

    Features

    • According to Orexia's manufacturer, the product is designed to intensify clitoral sensitivity and provide powerful orgasms during sexual activity. It is applied directly to a woman's vaginal area. Its makers claim that a woman should be able to have an orgasm with the first use of this product. It may be necessary to use more than one application during each encounter, however.

    Considerations

    • The makers of Orexia claim that the product is safe and has been scientifically tested. However, it has not been FDA approved, as the FDA does not have an approval system in place for this type of product. The manufacturers of Orexia claim that it is non-toxic and does not lead to addiction, but should only be used externally. According to the Orexia website, this product will not interfere with any type of medication. However, this statement goes only for medications taken orally or used in any place other than the vagina. The makers of Orexia say it is best to avoid using it along with vaginal medications, such as those for yeast infections. You may want to ask your doctor whether or not you can use Orexia first and then use your vaginal medication later in the same day or night (see Resources below).

    Effects

    • According to the makers of Orexia, massaging the cream into the clitoris produces an increase in blood flow to the area, stimulating the clitoris and increasing vaginal lubrication. This product is intended to provide increased sensitivity in this area until orgasm has been achieved. The makers of Orexia guarantee the performance of this product. One jar is said to last for 30 applications, and it has a shelf life of 2 years (see Resources below).

    Warning

    • Though the makers of Orexia claim the product is safe, they do not recommend using this product for pregnant women, as it may produce contractions that could, in some cases, be risky during a pregnancy. However, according to the Mayo Clinic, orgasmic contractions during a normal, low-risk pregnancy are not risky. Still, it makes sense to ask your doctor before using this product if you are pregnant (see Resources below).
