How to Silk Wrap Your Hair

A hair silk wrap acts as a conditioning and styling technique that allows for soft and silky hair. While silk wraps can be used by anyone, they are more commonly used to care for African American hair. Many hair salons offer silk wrap services, however, this can be a costly service. You can, however, easily perform a silk wrap at home. The entire process takes between 30 and 60 minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash hair with a straightening or smoothing shampoo and conditioner.

    • 2

Dry hair completely, taking care to blow dry roots straight.

    • 3

Put your hair in large rollers. Hot rollers work best as they'll set the curl. If you use standard rollers, direct the blow dryer's heat at them to set the curl.

    • 4

      Remove the rollers.

    • 5

Apply a leave-in conditioner or setting lotion to your hair. You can also use any other hair moisturizer you wish. In most cases, only a small amount is needed. If you add too much, it may unnecessarily weigh down your hair.

    • 6

Cover your hair in plastic wrap. Hair should be smooth when you place the plastic wrap over it.

    • 7

Sit under a hair dryer for approximately 20 minutes.

    • 8

Take the plastic wrap off to reveal your smooth and shiny hair.
