If you are interested in stalling your period, you should first visit your gynecologist (or another appropriate healthcare professional) to discuss your concerns. Your doctor needs to give you a health evaluation to determine if stalling your period is something you should do. She will ask about your current health status and may give you a physical examination.

Your doctor will explain the ways in which you can safely stall your menstrual cycle, such as taking a specific type of oral contraceptive (birth-control pills) or getting the birth-control shot.

Learn more about your options. Your doctor can provide you with helpful information about two types of oral contraceptives, Seasonique and Seasonal, which are designed to temporarily stall your cycle, reducing its frequency to once every three months. You may also choose to have the Depo-Provera injection, which perpetually stalls your menstrual cycle as long as you are taking the shots. The Depo-Provera shot is given once every three months, and you must see your doctor in order to receive the injection.

Start taking the birth control as soon as possible. If you have already planned a trip or event (such as your wedding) or are going to attend a big party or celebration, you should begin taking the birth control at least three or four months in advance. This gives your body time to get adjusted to the birth control.
