How to Treat a Loss of Libido in Women

In a society that is obsessed with sex, women with a loss of libido may feel too embarrassed to admit they have a problem. Yet, this is usually the worst thing a woman can do because it never gives her an opportunity to restore her sexual health. Of course, this is not to say that those who readily acknowledge low libido will have things any easier, but at least they are taking a step in the right direction. After this acknowledgment, they can take the next course of action and figure out how they can enhance their libido. The guidelines set forth below can provide more information about this process.

Determine if there are any physical reasons for your loss of libido. There are a myriad of physical problems that could cause a woman to experience loss of libido. Just a few examples include negative drug interactions, vaginal dryness and hormonal imbalances. Your gynecologist can provide further assistance. If your gynecologist does find there is a physical problem, she may recommend hormonal therapy to correct it. Should this be the case, you will probably be given estrogen to help revitalize your low libido. The exception is if your doctor suggests testosterone therapy; however, since testosterone is not FDA approved for this situation, this probably won't be your doctor's recommendation.

Visit your psychologist. If there are no physical reasons why you have a low libido, perhaps there are psychological. Maybe you are depressed or simply stressed out. Perhaps you are suffering from a distinct sexual disorder. Either way, your psychologist will use therapy to get to the bottom line of things. If this doesn’t work, he may suggest you get more direct help from a sex therapist.

Be open to sexual experimentation. Sometimes women experience a loss of libido because they are bored with the same sexual routine. This is why they should spice up their love life with sex toys, romantic rendezvous and anything else that can arouse desire in both partners.

Perform Kegel exercises. Occasionally, pregnancy or hormonal changes may weaken a woman’s vaginal muscles, making it harder for her to experience full arousal. Kegel exercises can strengthen these muscles to help make sex more enjoyable.

Exercise the rest of your body. Aerobic exercise in general helps increase blood flow throughout your body, including your genital area. In addition, exercise also builds your self-esteem, since it helps keep you in shape. And with increased self-esteem, many women feel more desirable in the bedroom.
