How to Lose Weight After Multiple Births
Multiple births -- whether from separate pregnancies or from twins, triplets or more -- can take a toll on a mother's body. And many moms tend to focus on their new babies while their own health suffers. But a healthy mom doesn't just look better in her post-baby body. She feels better, with more energy to take care of her children and enjoy her growing family. Losing weight after pregnancy requires patience, planning and a holistic approach that includes a healthy diet, moderate exercise and rest -- whenever you can get it.Instructions

Take it slowly, especially in the first couple of months. Pregnancy and birth, especially multiple births, are extremely taxing on a woman's body, and you will need some time to recover. Focus less on weight loss and more on rest and healing in the early months.

Breastfeed, if possible. While the main effects of breastfeeding are a healthy start for your babies and a wonderful opportunity to bond, the energy and nutrients required to provide milk often result in weight loss for mom. The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding up to two years. Some moms don't have the option to breastfeed, and that's OK. While breastfeeding is a healthy option for mom and baby, it's one of many healthy options you can make.

Eat five to six small meals a day, focusing on lean protein and fresh fruits and vegetables. New moms need as much energy as they can get, and grazing on nutrient-dense foods will prevent you from reaching for empty calories just for an energy buzz.

Drink plenty of fluids, with water as your top choice. Aim for at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day. Fluids keep your metabolism level and will help you not to overeat. If you are breastfeeding, low-fat or skim milk, including lactose-free, is just as healthy as whole milk. Stay away from sodas, which offer lots of sugar and caffeine without nutrients.

Incorporate moderate exercise into your routine. Strolling with your babies and playtime are perfect ways to get your exercise without sacrificing quality time. If you can sneak away for a few minutes, swimming and elliptical workouts are both low-impact options. The Mayo Clinic recommends 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise.

Keep in touch with your doctor about your weight loss. A good physician will help you maintain realistic weight-loss goals and ensure you don't lose too much weight too soon.
