What do certified pharmacy techs make?

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the median annual wage for pharmacy technicians was $34,360 in May 2021. The top 10 percent of earners made more than $48,650, while the bottom 10 percent earned less than $22,870.

The BLS also reports that pharmacy technicians working in hospitals earn the highest wages, with a median annual wage of $39,230. Pharmacy technicians working in retail pharmacies earn a median annual wage of $32,740, while those working in clinics earn a median annual wage of $30,300.

The location of a pharmacy technician's job can also affect their wages. Pharmacy technicians working in the District of Columbia earn the highest wages, with a median annual wage of $47,130. Pharmacy technicians working in Puerto Rico earn the lowest wages, with a median annual wage of $25,310.

Certification can also affect a pharmacy technician's wages. Pharmacy technicians who are certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) earn a higher median annual wage than those who are not certified.
