Maryland Alcohol Abuse In-House Programs
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 37,000 deaths were the result of alcohol use in 2007. Alarming statistics such as these have lead many to seek a form of treatment for alcohol abuse. While outpatient treatment centers may work for some, an inpatient program keeps patients away from temptations and concentrates on fixing the problems that lead to alcohol abuse. The state of Maryland offers a number of in-house treatment programs designed to help residents throughout the state.-
Allegany County Health Department
-
The Allegany County Health Department offers a number of alcohol treatment programs designed for both adults and youth who are considered at risk for becoming dependent on alcohol. The Jackson Unit is a 60-day, inpatient rehab facility designed for youth ages 13 to 18 who have been diagnosed as dependent on alcohol or drugs. Thirty-three beds are available, and the program works with both the children and their parents to address the problems leading to alcohol abuse. The Jackson Unit provides counseling sessions, educational programs and recreational activities for youth to participate in during their stay.
Adults in Allegany County may attend the inpatient treatment program at the Joseph C. Massie Unit, which provides treatment for both alcohol and drug abuse. The length of stay is determined on a case-by-case basis with each patient and upon completion of the program, professionals at the Joseph C. Massie Unit work with patients on an outpatient basis for 12 months. Patients participate in individual and group therapy, alcohol and drug education, relapse prevention programs and psychiatric evaluations. Activities including a fitness center and off-site programs are available.
