Hibiclens Directions
Hibiclens, also known as chlorhexidine topical, is used to clean the skin and prevent infection. Hibiclens kills bacteria, germs and disease-causing microbes. Its antiseptic properties make it ideal for preparing patients for surgery, but it has consumer applications as well. Hibiclens is often used to clean and disinfect wounds. It is also used to prevent infections spread by shared sports gear and other equipment. Given its multiple functions, it is important to understand how to apply Hibiclens properly for best results.Instructions

1
Prepare to treat superficial skin wounds by washing the wound and surrounding area with water. Put just enough Hibiclens on the skin to cover the area of the injury, then wash it carefully. Rinse the area well a second time. Hibiclens should not be used on deeper wounds on a regular basis.

Use warm water to rinse hands before using as a general hand cleanser. Put about 5 ml into your hands, and wash for 15 seconds. Avoid using a lot of pressure during washing. Rinse your hands well using warm water, and dry them well. This method is only to be used for routine cleansing, not for pre-operative purposes.

Wash clothes immediately if possible to avoid staining by Hibiclens. Chlorhexidine gluconate is designed to stay in place for long periods of time for medical purposes, so it has a tendency to remain on clothes as well. Flush clothing with warm water (90 degrees to 100 degrees F). Use a chlorine-free detergent, since chlorhexidine gluconate tends to create brown stains when mixed with chlorine. If a second wash is needed to remove spots, try a nonchlorine bleach.
