Instructions for Mounting a Grab Bar

Bathroom grab bars help people with disabilities and the elderly get in and out of the bath tub. Correct installation is important to make sure the grab bars do not come loose or fall off of the wall when used, because the person using the grab bar could fall or slip. The grab bars are useful after a bath or shower when water has made the tub slippery. A user places one hand on the bar and steps out of the bath with the extra support from the grab bar.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the studs near where the grab bar will be installed. Mark the stud locations with a pencil in the center of each stud.

    • 2

Use a tape measure to line up the stud locations. Mark the studs with a piece of tape.

    • 3

Place the grab bar over the marks so that two or more screw holes line up with the studs.

    • 4

Drill holes where the screw holes line up with the studs and tap in wall anchors.

    • 5

Caulk the back of the mounting head that comes with the grab bar. Screw in the grab bar by placing screws through the bar mount and into the wall anchors. Grab the bar and pull to make sure it doesn't come out.
