How to Modify Childproof Lids

Nothing is more frustrating to an elderly person than not being able to open the bottles that contain the medication he takes daily to treat chronic problems. Although childproof lids are necessary to keep children safe, they can be very frustrating for someone who has difficulties opening his medication. A childproof lid can easily be altered for easier opening.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cap from bottle, and set it on the cutting board. Place the bottle with the medication away from the work space to prevent spills.

    • 2

Turn the cap upside down so the top is facing down. Insert a hobby knife blade between the inner and outer caps.

    • 3

Hold the cap tightly, and cut two slices down each side of the outside cap from top to bottom.

    • 4

Bend the cap as if you were trying to fold it in half, and pop out the inner cap.

    • 5

Screw the inner cap onto the bottle.
