Licensing

• The Department of Health sub-classifies assisted living facilities in Arizona according to size. Facilities that provide services to 10 or fewer residents are assisted living homes, while facilities caring for more than 10 residents are assisted living centers. The Department of Health licenses facilities to provide either supervisory care, personal care or directed care services.

Cost

• Costs for assisted living homes in Arizona generally range from $2,000 to $3,500 per month, cheaper than that of nursing homes. Scottsdale and Paradise Valley offer luxury assisted living homes for roughly $5,000 per month. Most facilities only accept private pay as payment.

Residential

• Residential assisted living in Arizona combines nursing homes with in-home care. Elderly individuals who cannot live alone but do not need specialized medical care continue to live in single-family homes but have access to an assistant 24 hours per day. The Arizona State Department of Health Services licenses these kinds of houses.
