How to Apply for a Disability Scooter
If you are disabled and require an option for mobility both inside and outside the home, you might want to consider applying for a disability scooter. Unlike the traditional electric wheelchair, these scooters will help you get around both inside the home and on rough terrain outside. If you meet all of the requirements, Medicare will help you pay for a disability scooter.Instructions

1
Make an appointment with your doctor to talk about applying for a disability scooter. Take someone with you to the appointment to assist you in getting around. Ask your doctor to perform an evaluation of your physical state to determine if you are eligible for a disability scooter. As part of the evaluation, you will undergo tests to determine whether or not you need mobility assistance.

2
Tell your doctor about the difficulties that you have getting around. Make a list of circumstances in which you cannot walk or need assistance.

3
Ask your doctor to prescribe the disability scooter once the evaluation has been completed. Your doctor will then send Medicare the prescription and other documents that prove your need of a disability scooter, including the results of your tests. Once all documents have been submitted, you may be approved in as little as two weeks.
