The first thing you need to do, is to gather the patients clothes. Make sure you get all the under garments (underwear, bras, under shirts, and socks)and if they wear a adult brief or depends, get that too. If the patient is able, let them choose what they would like to wear. If they can't choose for themselves, you need to pick clothes that are free of any holes, and clothes that aren't missing buttons or zippers. Make sure that you dress the patient the same way you would dress yourself. Remember, dignity.

Next put on the socks or stockings on the patient, then the undershirt or bra. You are now ready for the top layer of clothes. Put on the pants, shirt, and most likely you will need to put a sweater on the patient too. Bad blood circulation equals cold patient. Put the patients shoes or slippers on, make sure the sole of the footwear is non slip, you don't want your patient slipping and falling.
