AARP Healthcare Options

AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) provides members aged 50 and over the ability to purchase health insurance options along with other products and services. This nonprofit, nonpartisan membership group is the nation's largest social welfare association that helps older Americans improve their quality of life.
  1. Essential Premier Health Insurance

    • AARP offers an Essential Premier Health Insurance plan that's provided by Aetna Life Insurance Company. This individual health insurance plan, for AARP members between the ages of 50 and 64, offers preventive care, doctor visits and hospital stay coverage. It also includes the member's dependents and is custom-designed to fit the needs of the policy-buyer. AARP membership doesn't guarantee coverage; members must still apply as they would for any other health insurance.

    Medicare Supplement Insurance

    • AARP's Medicare Supplement Insurance plans can help lower senior citizens' healthcare costs through co-payments, deductibles and co-insurance. Insured by UnitedHealthcare Insurance, this supplemental insurance plan allows for members to keep seeing their own doctors and specialists as long as they accept Medicare patients. Other costs the Medicare Supplement Insurance plan covers include hospital care.

    Medicare Advantage

    • Medicare Advantage plans are private health plans offered through SecureHorizons and insured by a UnitedHealthcare afffiliate. These plans offer the general coverage of original Medicare and also include lower co-payments with additional service benefits. Some Medicare Advantage plans provide prescription drug coverage.

    MedicareRx

    • Provided through UnitedHealthcare insurance providers, AARP MedicareRx is a drug prescription plan that helps senior citizens manage the rising costs of prescription medication. A person doesn't have to be enrolled in Medicare to be eligible for this plan. Other prescription drug plans available to Medicare recipients include Medicare Part D, a plan that can save them money by ensuring that if medical emergencies occur, they can obtain the medication they need without worrying about an extremely large prescription drug bill.
