Surgical Preparation
-
Before surgery, the patient completes a medical history report and may have a physical exam and blood testing. This takes place at the doctor's office. Insurance and other billing questions are also addressed prior to surgery. The patient receives a list or phone call from the nurse with pre-surgical procedures like not to eat before surgery and to have a responsible person accompany the patient to the center.
Pre-Operative Interview
-
The day of surgery, the anesthesiologist interviews the patient to get information about all medications the patient currently takes. The anesthesiologist discusses the type of anesthesia administered and possible side effects. The anesthesia plan is based on patient concerns, type of surgery and medical history.
Post-Operative Treatment
-
After surgery, the physician prepares recovery instructions when the patient returns home. These may include to take prescribed medications, rest, and to restrict driving.
