Respironics Smart Monitor 2 Instructions

The SmartMonitor 2 is an apnea monitor for babies, manufactured by Respironics. In 2007, Respironics entered a merger with Royal Philips Electronics --- combining the brand names in respiratory care products. Apnea is a sleep disorder which causes frequent obstructed breathing during sleep which can cause a host of symptoms, including daytime sleepiness, loud snoring and morning headaches. The Smart Monitor 2 is designed to monitor sleeping babies for breathing irregularities. The regular inspection and care of a SmartMonitor 2 can help optimize its continued performance.

      Charge the battery if the Low Battery light stays lit for longer than 30 seconds. This is an indication that the batteries have been fully discharged. Press and hold the blue "Reset" button, then press and release the gray "Power" button. After two seconds, release the "Reset" button. Ensure that the power cord is plugged into an outlet and connected to the monitor. Let the battery charge for at least 30 minutes, after which you can operate the monitor while it is plugged in. Before using the monitor on battery power, ensure that the battery has charged for six hours.

      Inspect the power cord if the monitor fails to operate. Ensure that the power cord is firmly plugged into an active outlet and connected securely to the monitor. Check the cord for wear or damage. Replace the power cord if there are any signs of wear or damage. Consult the manufacturer for warranty and part replacement information.

      Replace electrodes if Loose Lead Light remains lit. Inspect the lead wires and patient cables for wear or damage. Any damaged connections could cause the Loose Lead Light to remain lit, and should be replaced.

      Charge the battery if the alarm sounds weak. Turn the unit off and plug it into an active outlet for at least 30 minutes. This could also be symptomatic of an internal parts failure and you should contact the manufacturer for professional servicing.
