How to Put a Cover on a Stethoscope
A stethoscope is a medical diagnostic aid for listening to sounds with in the body. Medical professionals may wear their stethoscopes around their necks for easy access. Over time, naturally occurring oils of the skin will begin to break down the tubing of the stethoscope causing it to harden and crack. Regular cleaning and a stethoscope cover can help protect your investment. A stethoscope cover can also protect the skin from exposure to harmful bacteria that a medical professional encounters on a daily basis.Things You'll Need

1
Wipe the tubing of the stethoscope with a mild soap and warm water. The soap will remove bacteria and skin oils that will damage the tubing. Dry the tubing with a clean, dry towel.
-
2
Slip the cover over the bell of the stethoscope. Most covers have an elastic band within the fabric at each end that easily slips over the bell of the stethoscope when stretched and holds the cover in place when it is contracted. Some covers may have a hook-and-loop fabric closure which will need to be manually secured.

3
Pull the cover along the tubing of the stethoscope toward the earpieces. A properly sized cover will go over the entire length of tubing. Any gaps in the fabric could become a haven for bacteria.
