How to Deal With Difficult Medical Assistants

Medical assistants may place you in a room, take your vital signs, collect a medical history, draw blood and perform other tasks at the discretion of the physician in charge. Medical assistants are supposed to make you feel relaxed and welcome, but a difficult medical assistant can make your medical experience less than ideal. Fortunately, there are ways to deal with an unpleasant medical assistant.

      Talk directly to the the medical assistant and express your concerns. For example, if a medical assistant is embarrassing you or hurting you while performing a procedure, tell them. The solution to the problem may be as simple as the medical assistant being a little more delicate or more sensitive to your feelings.

      Talk to your doctor or the office manager and express your concerns. They will likely bring the problem to the attention of the medical assistant and work to improve the situation.
