Medtronic Troubleshooting

Medtronic is one of the world's largest medical technology companies. The company was founded in 1949 by Earl Bakken and Palmer Hermundslie and originally operated out of their garage. It began when a power blackout in their hometown prompted them to invent a portable pacemaker (See Reference 2). Today the company manufactures high-end medical devices, such as the NIM 2.0 System which is used to monitor nerve integrity. The NIM 2.0 System aids in the prevention of further nerve damage. Regular inspection and care of the NIM 2.0 System can help keep it running efficiently.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the electrodes if electrode impedance appears too high. Re-insert the dislodged electrode into the patient, and tape it in place if it was partially dislodged. If it was completely dislodged, replace the electrode. Replace a high-resistance electrode with a new electrode. Check the connection at the patient interface box to verify that the electrode pins are firmly joined.

    • 2

Remove and replace an electrode that is dirty or has a broken cable. A dirty electrode or broken cable can cause the electrode to read "OFF." Damaged cables can have a similar effect.

    • 3

Change the muting probe connector to a lower setting until it stops muting. If it still mutes on the lowest setting, disconnect the muting detector entirely. The muting detector must not interfere with necessary systems operation.
