How to Submit a Nurse Educator Article

Professional nursing publications solicit contributions and welcome well-researched and composed work. Nursing journals prefer work written by nurses, which makes nurse educators eligible contributors. While smaller nursing publications such as those put out by state nursing associations publish articles with advice and tips, major nursing journals look for work backed by evidence-based research and case studies. Nurse educators who engage in furthering nursing practice and science have the opportunity to share their work with peers who can benefit from it.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the website of the nursing journals or publications where want your article to appear. Find the submissions page outlining the requirements of an article or manuscript. Review these requirements and check them against your work. If necessary, make changes to your work so it qualifies.

    • 2

Review the authorized topics list for publications that have one. For example, the American Nurses Association maintains a list of nursing subjects it has published in and considers within the scope of its print and online publications. It accepts manuscripts related to these topics.

    • 3

Review the journal website for the name of the appropriate editor to contact. Email or call the editor. Offer editors an outline of your article, in print or orally, including any research you intend to present and its implications. Have research material available to share in phone discussions.

    • 4

Review the schedule of submission deadlines for each publication you are considering. Have your piece edited and reviewed for submission in time. Ask other nurse educators, clinical nurses or nurse researchers you know to review your work, as most nursing journals conduct peer reviews of articles before publishing them.

    • 5

Check submission policies listed online. For smaller publications such as those put out by state nursing associations and nursing boards, call or email editors to see how they prefer their submissions. Check to see if the publications require any materials in addition to the manuscript, such as a bio or a financial disclosure statement.

Submit your article by email if possible. If your manuscript is available only in print form, send it by mail or courier and follow up by emailing the submission contact to ensure she received it.
