Preventive Maintenance for an Ultrasound
An ultrasound machine, just like any other piece of equipment, needs preventive maintenance to keep it running properly and preserve its longevity. Only trained technicians should perform maintenance on the machine to determine if it's completely operational.-
Cleaning
-
A technician will clean all the external parts of the machine, such as the computer screen, keyboard, peripheral equipment and probes (also called transducers). The technician will also clean its filters, error logs and printing devices.
Functionality
-
Different components of the machine are tested to verify their functionality. For example, the transducers that produce the ultrasound's image are checked to ensure they're working properly. So is the computer screen and the machine's control panel.
Inspection
-
Even if the ultrasound machine appears to be functioning normally, a technician should inspect it for potential problems and to see if any parts need to be replaced or upgraded. The technician will perform such tasks as checking probes to see if they're too worn for continued use and inspecting the battery and electrical system.
