Begin your search by asking your primary physician to recommend an orthopedist. Ideally he or she will be able to direct you to a specialist for your particular condition, however do not rely solely on the opinion of your doctor. Sometimes referrals are made to specific orthopedic groups just because they are affiliated with the same organization your primary doctor works for. Inquire with your health insurance plan to find out which local orthopedists are in-network.
