What Does the Public Aid Medical Card Pay For?
Illinois assists residents with medical costs through the Healthcare and Family Services program. Patients present the Public Aid Medical Card to receive services, but the program does restrict the care it will cover.-
Types

The Public Aid Medical Card pays for basic care received from hospitals, doctor's offices and clinics. Psychiatric, chiropractic, vision and limited dental services are provided.
Diagnostics

The card covers diagnostic procedures such as x-rays, laboratory tests and surgical second opinions.
Care

The state also assists with payment for renal dialysis, rehabilitation, alcohol and substance abuse programs and hospice care. It also includes prescription drug coverage. The plan covers preventative care such as birth control, as well.
Special Populations

Children may receive home care and more expansive dental care than adults in the program.
