ADA Technical Standards for Medical Laboratory Technology

The American Dental Association (ADA) makes recommendations based upon meeting the demands of multiple government standards. It routinely publishes advisories so that manufacturers and dentists contribute to the consistent quality of treatment and safety for all patients.
  1. Dental Informatics

    • The ADA established the Standards Committee on Dental Informatics to put information technologies into dentists' offices, streamline the treatment process and bring the best tools into the hands of practitioners. The committee's technical standards recommend packages of hardware, software and imaging tools that integrate into a fully computerized environment.

    Dental Products

    • The ADA's team of 40 voting members and 60 working groups forms the Standards Committee on Dental Products, which created specifications detailing every professional and public oral care product and reporting on the best choices. The ADA suggests clinicians refer to these reports before making any new purchases.

    International Standards

    • The International Organization for Standardization oversees the standards for products across the globe. With growing overseas markets providing a greater share of U.S. dental products, the American National Standards Institute chose the ADA as the sponsor of the U.S. voting body for the ISO Technical Committee, to ensure that the same stringent standards apply, no matter the source of the product.
