Role of the Nurse Educator Regarding Accountability
Nurse educators are governed by a code of conduct and the goal of enhancing the knowledge of professional nurses. The health care providers work under an established collections of statutes and laws designed to create consistency and an ethical code.-
Duties
-
A nurse educator wears many hats while performing routine duties. The trained and licensed caregivers serve as teachers, mentors, researchers and counselors to nursing students. Nurse educators are charged with meeting the challenge of not only instructing future nurses but retaining records and adhering to accountability standards of both the learning institution and state health care laws.
Code of Ethics
-
The ethical principles which mandate accountability standards and relate to an approved code of conduct include student development, content competency, valid and truthful evaluation of students, financial integrity, respect for colleagues, and a commitment to professionalism.
Ideology
-
The American Association for Collegiate Nursing established a professional ideology in 1998 to enhance professional values and a commitment to lifelong learning in the health care field. Nurse educators are responsible for preparing future nurses to safeguard patients from harm and incorporate current nursing innovations into the curriculum.
