Military HIPAA Certification

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, a privacy rule instituted by Congress in 1996, prevents the inappropriate use or disclosure of health care information. HIPAA training programs are available for military personnel to obtain HIPAA certifications.
  1. Uses

    • Military personnel who choose to become certified HIPAA specialists can work with sensitive military documentation. Military health records, for instance, require topnotch security compliance so that they are never inappropriately released. Accordingly, a HIPAA certification can be used to land a job as a compliance officer or records security officer in military divisions.

    Training

    • Having a HIPAA certification enables military personnel to become HIPAA trainers for military staff. HIPAA trainers are responsible for planning course curriculum and educating others about the history, background, rules and significance of HIPAA.

    Courses

    • Military personnel have the option of becoming Certified HIPAA Professionals, Certified HIPAA Security Specialists or Certified HIPAA Administrators. While each course prepares students for compliance management, the three certifications differ in regards to specialty. For instance, a Certified HIPAA Security Specialist specializes in information technology and security compliance.
