How to Inject Doxepin Hydrochloride
Doxepin hydrochloride is an antidepressant drug. The drug is also used to treat anxiety in psychoneurotic patients. Doxepin hydrochloride is also known by its brand name Sinequan. It is not recommended to inject more than 150 mg per day. Doxepin hydrochloride is generally contraindicated in patients that have taken a MAO inhibitor within the last two weeks, patients with glaucoma, urinary retention or patients with a known allergy to dibenzoxepin-based drugs. Intramuscular Injection

Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap and water.

Insert the syringe's needle into the vial of doxepin hydrochloride. Pull back the plunger on the syringe, suctioning in the medicine. Tap the side of the syringe to make sure that no bubbles are present in the chamber.

Swab the patient's skin with the alcohol swab at the injection site. The most convenient muscle to use is the deltoid, which is on the outer arm below the shoulder joint. Pinch the injection area lightly and hold.

Insert the needle into the skin using firm pressure. Press on the plunger to inject the medicine. Remove the needle, stop pinching the skin and apply a bandage.
Intravenous Injection

Insert the syringe's needle into the vial of doxepin hydrochloride. Pull back the plunger on the syringe, suctioning in the medicine. Tap the side of the syringe to make sure that no bubbles are present in the chamber.

Tie the tourniquet around the patient's arm. Ask the patient to make a fist with his hand. Find a vein by tapping the inner-elbow area. Swab the area with alcohol.

Insert the needle into the vein at a 45 degree angle. Pull the plunger on the syringe back slightly. You should see a small amount of blood enter the chamber. If you do not see blood, pull out the needle and attempt this step again.

Press on the plunger of the syringe to inject the doxepin hydrochloride. Remove the needle and bandage the area. Remove the tourniquet.
