Technology That Helps Paramedics
When an emergency happens, patients often rely on paramedics to help save their lives, but paramedics rely on certain technology in order to do their job. Extensive training allows them to make use of information and medical technologies.-
Technology Training
-
All paramedics receive training, and many earn an associate's degree. Much of a paramedical program involves learning how to use the available technology in order to provide the best prehospital life support. This training allows the technology to be of use to the paramedics.
Information Technology
-
Information technology includes anything that allows paramedics to retrieve necessary information. GPS software and MARVLIS (Mobile Area Routing and Vehicle Location Information System) software helps guide paramedics to their destinations, while communications software allows paramedics to contact dispatchers and hospitals.
Medical Technology
-
Medical technology helps paramedics provide prehospital care and life support. Examples include blood pressure cuffs, oxygen masks, CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) devices, Intraosseous (administered through the bone) Infusion Systems, Cardiac Monitors/Defibrillators and AED (Automatic External Defibrillator).
