What Is the Children's Hospital Care Center?

Most children's hospital CARE centers tend to children who were or are suspected of having been abused. CARE is usually an acronym for Children at Risk Evaluation.

Audrey Hepburn CARE Center

• The Audrey Hepburn CARE Center is part of the children's hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. More than 1,000 abused children from Louisiana to southern Mississippi receive care at the center on a yearly basis. With a home-like atmosphere, the center provides clinical expertise in child abuse forensic medicine, consultation and prevention, training and research.

Akron Children's Hospital CARE Center

• The Akron Children's Hospital CARE Center evaluates and treats children who are suspected of suffering from physical or sexual abuse or neglect, as well as medical evaluations for kids in foster care. Children on an inpatient unit also have access to the center when abuse is suspected.

St. Luke's CARES at Boise Children's Hospital

• St. Luke's CARES center seeks to minimize any additional trauma an allegedly abused child may have experienced. The center also provides expert medical diagnosis, referral and resources for abused children and their families. Mental health services are offered in cases where needed as well.
