NHS Counter Fraud Training

The NHS Counter Fraud Service aims to prevent, detect and prosecute fraud in the U.K.'s National Health Service, which has an annual budget of £80 billion and is one of the world's largest employers. It also provides fraud and corruption investigation training to both NHS and external organizations.
  1. History

    • Established in 1998 as part of the NHS Business Services Authority, the main aim of the Counter Fraud Service is to release more money for patient care by reducing fraud. As of 2010, it has recovered £60 million for the NHS through more than 550 successful prosecutions.

    Function

    • The Counter Fraud Service investigates and prosecutes all aspects of NHS fraud, from patient prescription scams to pharmaceutical company price-fixing allegations. The service also actively promotes an anti-fraud culture within the NHS. Part of its goal is to improve the skills of fraud investigators through training and development.

    Types

    • The Counter Fraud Service uses its wide experience to provide nationally-recognized and accredited specialist fraud investigation training at two dedicated U.K training centers at Reading and Coventry. Training options include a foundation level course, an advanced development program to enhance investigative skills and continuing professional development for counter-fraud specialists.
