How do I Use a Hoyer Lift 400?
Hoyer lifts help transfer patients from one spot to another. They help both patients and caregivers prevent injuries during the lifting process. The Hoyer Lift 400 is designed for people who weigh up to 400 lbs. Injury can occur if people over 400 lbs. are hoisted with the lift. The lift comes on wheels and can be pushed throughout facilities. It is not battery-operated, so it does not have to be recharged.Instructions

1
Adjust the Hoyer sling underneath the person you want to transfer. The top of the sling should be positioned against his back, while the arms of the sling should be smooth and lay straight out. The legs of the sling and the bottom portion of the sling should be straight alongside the legs. Any kinks or twists should be straightened out so that the patient does not get hurt. The patient should be sitting or laying down for the transfer.

2
Cross the legs of the sling underneath the person to be moved. Attach the top of the sling and the bottom of the sling to the lift with the hoops that are on the sling. Adjust the sling according to the person's body length.
-
3
Position the lift so that it can lift the person. The lift needs to be directly over the person when you move her. This will help to prevent any injuries.
-
4
Locate the lever at the bottom of the lift. The lever is a long metal handle that will help hydraulically lift the person up in the air. Pump the lever up and down to raise the person up.

5
Maneuver the lift to the place where the patient is to be relocated. This may be another bed or a chair. Guide the person with your hands and do not just leave her hanging in the air. A caregiver should stay with the lift and the person being moved at all times.
-
6
Lower the person down from the lift. This is done by pushing the lever at the bottom of the lift and letting it release the weight. The hydraulic mechanics of the lift will slowly lower the patient to the new position.

7
Release the person from the sling and remove the sling. Never leave a sling under the person because it could cause the skin to break or become irritated. Move the lift away from the person and park it somewhere where it will not injure anyone.
