According to the Tennessee Department of Health, the Tennessee Board of Nursing was created in 1911 by the state legislature. The Board investigates violations of state laws and regulations regarding nursing.
Licensing

The Allied Health World website reports that to become a licensed nurse in Tennessee, a candidate must train at an accredited school and complete clinical training in the state. This local training is followed by a candidate taking the National Council Licensure Examination. Passing that exam with a score of 85 percent or higher is required for licensing.
Curriculum

The Tennessee Board of Nursing is responsible for providing guidelines about the minimum curriculum to be studied at accredited nursing schools. Allied Health World reports the Board of Nursing also studies the nursing education provided in different states to decide if nursing qualifications from other states are valid in Tennessee.
