1
Assess what departments or areas of nursing you are specialized in. A good understanding of your specific skills can be of vital importance when choosing what nursing skills you can coach others on. These skills can be virtually anything, from soft skills such as patient education, to hard skills as in electrocardiogram interpretation or starting intravenous lines.

2
Talk with your nursing director or hospital administrator about using your skills as a health and wellness coach in your facility. Coaching is a new nursing position that not all hospitals have initiated; however, most any healthcare facility would welcome a clinical skills coach if you can show that you have the experience to handle the position. If you are trying to coach nursing skills at another facility, you will need to show on your resume or nursing portfolio that you have the appropriate experience and training required for the position.

3
Stay up to date on the nursing skills you will be coaching and develop a consistent method in which you can properly coach the specialized skills. A good nursing skills coach has the ability to train any person by using not only her knowledge of the specialized skill but by sharing from her experiences with that particular task.
