State of CT Medical License Information for Consumers

The state of Connecticut provides two types of medical license information for consumers, according to the Connecticut Department of Public Health. Consumers may look up a physician's licensure profile on the Department of Public Health's website or view actual licensure information through Connecticut's licensure portal (see References). Both sites provide the same type of information for consumers.
  1. Identifying Information

    • Both web portals for consumer information about Connecticut medical licenses list the name of each licensee, the type of license he holds and the exact license number. This information helps distinguish among physicians who might have the same name or similar last names. The Connecticut Medical Examining Board also provides a tool to print out a roster of physicians holding medical licenses in a particular city or town.

    Important Dates

    • The Connecticut Department of Public Health notes two important dates on the consumer information it provides about physician licenses---the date the agency granted the medical license and the date it expires. These dates are key to consumers for two reasons: First, they show how long a doctor has been practicing medicine in Connecticut, and second, whether the license is still active.

    Status Information

    • Two critical pieces of information provided in the physician profile and on the license screen are the status of the license---such as whether it is current, expired or rescinded---and whether the Connecticut Medical Examining Board has brought any disciplinary actions against the doctor. The Connecticut Department of Public Health provides details of disciplinary actions when they exist; consumers may also read details of physician disciplinary hearings on the department website.
