How to Search for NPI Organization Members
The National Provider Identifier (NPI) is an administrative identification number created under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Each health care provider covered by HIPAA has a unique NPI number. An online NPI Registry provides a means of looking up organizations included in the system.Instructions

Visit the online NPI Registry. A direct link is included in the References section of this article.

Click on "Search for an Organizational Provider" to find organization NPI identifying information. You can also choose the option to "Search for an Individual Provider" if you have the name of a specific doctor to look up.

Enter the information in the relevant search fields. Search according to the organization's name and use city, state or ZIP code information to geographically limit results. Use an asterisk as a wild card for one or more characters in the organization's name.
