Student Nurse Code of Conduct
Student nurses must abide by a strict code of conduct, which is based on the ethical standards of respect, compassion and integrity as set by the American Nursing Association's Code for Nurses.-
Morality and Respect
-
Student nurses must maintain a high level of moral and ethical principle. Both the student and the working nurse must retain a wholeness of character and never undervalue or discriminate a patient based on a disease or disability.
Respect and Human Dignity
-
Student nurses must respect and advocate for the rights of every individual patient and provide services with respect toward diverse values without prejudice. When providing care, consider each individual's cultural and religious beliefs.
Privacy and Confidentiality
-
The student nurse must uphold a patient's privacy by maintaining a physical environment free of visual, auditory and conversational intrusion. Maintaining all medical history confidential is critical. Student nurses should follow a "need to know" principle.
Academic Ethics
-
All students, including those in nursing, must adhere to the same academic standards. Some of the biggest violations would be plagiarism and cheating.
Standard of Performance
-
Student nurses should continue training and gaining workplace experience, even after graduation. They must provide care courteously, professionally and in a timely manner.
