Lasers Used in the Medical Field

Medical lasers have been used in a variety of ways for many years. Medical lasers are used for cosmetic procedures, surgery and diagnostic procedures. The variations of frequency, power and wave measurements separate both the types of lasers that have been developed and the myriad ways in which the different lasers may be used. New types of treatment have been developed in conjunction with new types of medical lasers.
  1. Biostimulation Lasers

    • Biostimulation lasers are used primarily to relieve pain. Biostimulation lasers are also called soft lasers because they do not destroy tissue when they are being applied. Biostimulation lasers are a popular choice for dermatologists, chiropractors and pain specialists.

    Carbon Dioxide Laser

    • A carbon dioxide Laser is a very precise laser used for cutting tissue and cauterizing blood vessels. Carbon dioxide lasers are used by surgeons, urologists and gynecologists. The need for minimally invasive surgery has increased the demand for carbon dioxide lasers because they are considered a very "low impact" laser.

    Argon Laser

    • First used by eye surgeons, the Argon laser is used to destroy tissue when a powerful cutting tool is needed. Dermatologists used Argon lasers to treat ulcers, lesions and polyps. A benefit of Argon lasers is their ability to be thread through fiber-optic elements for more precise applications.
