History

• Walmart Stores, Inc. opened its first pharmacy in 1978. During the same year, Walmart also introduced its jewelry department, shoe department and vehicle service center. Upon the success of the pharmacy and other department additions, Walmart reached $1 billion in sales in 1979.

Features

• In addition to providing prescription filling, refilling and transfer services, the Walmart pharmacy provides flu shots and provides specialty prescription and pharmacy care for conditions including HIV, hepatitis and fertility conditions.
