How to Take Care of an Elephant Ear Washer

The Elephant Ear Washer is a tool used in clinics and medical facilities to remove earwax build-up. The bottle portion holds warm water, while the trigger mechanism forces a gentle stream of water through a small, disposable tip, which is placed inside the ear. Earwax is loosened and washed out, into a basin beneath the patient’s ear, by the pulsing jet of water produced each time the user pulls the trigger. The Elephant Ear Washer is made of plastic components, and is easily cleaned and maintained.

Instructions

    • 1

Disassemble the Elephant Ear Washer after each patient use, for cleaning. Remove the used ear tip and dispose of it. Rinse the bottle and spray mechanism in a 10 percent hydrogen peroxide solution, or other diluted, germicidal solution.

    • 2

Invert the bottle of the Elephant Ear Washer onto a towel to allow excess water to drain. Place the spray mechanism on the towel and allow both components to air dry.

    • 3

Empty contents of the Elephant Ear Washer basin, if using, into a sink and rinse with the same 10 percent hydrogen peroxide solution. Allow the basin to air dry.

    • 4

Store the Elephant Ear Washer in an appropriate area where it will not be crushed, punctured or damaged by other supplies. Ensure the tubing does not get pinched or kinked.
