Florida Requirements for a Hypnotherapist

Although you can get hypnosis training in any state, Florida is specific on who they allow to practice hypnotherapy. Florida recognizes that hypnosis can be a valuable tool to complement other practices.
  1. What the Law Says

    • Florida law states that therapeutic hypnosis can only be done by qualified professionals who are licensed to practice medicine. It also states that someone trained in hypnosis can practice under the direction or supervision of a licensed practitioner.

    Kind of Medical Professionals Included

    • You must be licensed in the practice of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, dentistry, osteopathy, chiropractic, naturopathy, podiatry, chiropody, psychology, clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling or optometry and have taken a course in hypnosis to practice or supervise the practice of hypnotherapy.

    Training

    • Certification in hypnosis can be earned through courses taken at many different schools in or outside of Florida. For schools in Florida that are approved by the department of education, see Resources below.

    Benefits of Hypnotherapy

    • Hypnosis can be helpful when undergoing a dental procedure, surgical procedure or in addition to many medical procedures. Hypnosis can also be helpful when undergoing treatment for mental health such as counseling or stress management.
